Powerful Pansies

The power pansy is the little blue one I found buried beneath the snow and hose during last week's warm spell. This one here is looking forward to getting off the window sill and joining that one.

I've been enjoying this local blog called Peak Soil.
The story about the fella working his CSAs in local yards is pretty amazing to me!

Collections

I've grown echinacea from seed before but never from a bag. I saw this at Costco the other day, 24 plants for $14 and thought, what the hay, I'll try it.
Last year I bought a collection of plants from the Ctr for Resource Conservation, their water-wise sunrise group. My favorite plant was the Vermillion Bluffs Mexican Sage. They all grew fast and tall and fed the hummingbirds for months, so much that I never filled my feeder last year.

This year, I'm eyeing a collection from High Country Gardens, the Jumbo Waterwise Garden, hoping the plants will be huge. I'm normally a cheap end-of-the-season plant buyer but sometimes you have to pay full early prices so there will be the end-of-the-season sales year after year.
